Who is Chef Viva Vegana

My name is Sandy Krebs, but you can call me Chef Viva Vegana.

When I started cooking in California in the 1980’s it was an exciting time in the culinary world. Alice Waters and Jeremiah Towers, among others, were beating the drum for this new (but really very old) concept; if it’s not fresh and it’s not wonderful, it’s not on the menu. There was a strong emphasis on using what was at hand. With the culturally diverse population in California, with large Latinx and Asian populations, what was at hand was a mixture of spices, smells, and flavors that set this young chef’s imagination free. So I guess you can say I was into Farm-to-Table and Fusion cooking before it was ever called that.

I spent over 30 years working in many fine establishments in the USA, The Virgin Islands, Europe, India, and even a brief stint in East Africa. In 2009 my restaurant, Deco, won the prestigious American Culinary Federation’s Achievement of Excellence Award.

Cut to 2017. I was experiencing some serious health issues and I knew that embracing a vegan lifestyle was the right thing for me to do, not just for my personal health but for the health of the planet.

I love sharing my culinary knowledge with people. My goal with these videos is to share quick, easy recipes to make vegan cooking accessible to everyone and to be teach-y not preachy. So…Let’s Cook!
